When The Devils Come

Ironwood is under siege. When a cartel claims the town and kidnaps the sheriff’s daughter, a hardened lawman and a quiet drifter with military edges rally ordinary people into extraordinary resistance.

Black SUVs idle at the edges of Ironwood. Red devil-head key tags appear like warnings. As the sheriff’s office is attacked and lines are drawn, neighbors become deputies, radios crackle, and a town decides it will not kneel. A gritty, faith‑threaded modern Western of duty, family, and the kind of rescue you launch when you refuse to lose.

Blending tactical authenticity with raw emotional stakes and unrelenting suspense, When The Devils Come delivers a story of courage, loyalty, and the unbreakable bond of a community standing together when everything is on the line.

About

The author behind the stories

R.E. Sprouse is the author of high‑stakes military and espionage thrillers in the tradition of Tom Clancy, as well as Scottish folklore–inspired semi‑horror and imaginative stories for readers of all ages. His work blends tactical authenticity with deep emotional stakes, exploring themes of duty, faith, legacy, and the bonds that hold people together under pressure.

A lifelong student of military history, Sprouse draws on 24 years of service in the U.S. Army — including years at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, home of the world’s most elite operators — to bring authenticity and lived perspective to his work. That experience helps shape characters who feel grounded, capable, and unmistakably human, even when the stakes are at their highest.

Whether writing about cartel sieges in forgotten towns, covert operations and high-stakes espionage thrillers, ancient covenants on the Scottish moors, or the quiet courage found in children’s stories, his goal remains the same: to tell honest stories about people facing impossible choices.

When he’s not writing, he enjoys time with his family — even if that sometimes means sitting around doing nothing and calling it quality time — woodworking (usually covered in sawdust while crafting toys for children and grandchildren), and fishing, where the goal is simple: hope something, anything, bites. He lives in South Carolina (South Click).
